What's new for APA 7th edition?

Reference list citation changes...

The publisher location is no longer required in a reference list citation.

Surnames and initials for up to 20 authors should be provided in the reference list.

URLs are no longer preceded by “Retrieved from" for webpage citations.

Blue underlined hyperlinks are acceptable in a citation. So are plain text with no underline.

Titles of webpage titles should be italicized and the parent website should be included in a webpage citation.

If available, issue numbers should be included in journal article reference list citations.

DOIs are formatted the same as URLs and begin with:

If a journal article does not have a DOI, the reference is the same as the print version and ends after the page range.

In text citation changes...

For works with three or more authors, only include the first author’s name and “et al." beginning with the first in-text citation.

Formatting changes...

A variety of fonts are permitted and include Calibri 11, Arial 11, Lucida Sans Unicode 10, Times New Roman 12, and Georgia 11.

For professional papers - the running head on the title page no longer includes the words “Running head:”. It now contains only a page number and the (shortened) paper title.

For student papers - the running head is omitted (unless your instructor tells you otherwise).

Formatting of heading levels 3-5 are revised.
