Who Was Robert Pitman?

“…it took me some time to figure it out. It took me some time to find it, but I think I should have done what I am doing now, years ago.”

--Robert Pitman, Alverno Campus News, Vol. 1, No. 4, February 15, 1972.

Robert Pitman made this revealing statement about his career at Alverno College during an interview with two students back in November of 1971.  Linda Jakubowski  (1975 Alverno Alum) and Helen Habriga. (Alverno student 1971-1974) were assigned to interview Pitman, then Director of Theatre Alverno and Associate Professor of Speech at Alverno College.  According to their notes and the transcript of that interview, it was with great anxiety, trepidation, and awe that they were able to sit down at length with him and discuss his views on teaching, writing, directing, and acting.  Jakubowski and Habriga would later write an article for the Alverno Campus News featuring this interview.  Their interview and article (both found below) provide insight into the life and work of the beloved and gifted writer, actor, director, and teacher.
