APA 7 Citation Format

Journal Articles

  • Journal article citations are formatted based on the number of authors (one, two, and three or more.)
  • DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier. This is a special kind of URL only used for journal articles that begins with "10." and is usually a string of numbers and letters. Very old journal articles may not have a DOI assigned, but more recent research published in academic journals will almost always have a DOI.
  • A DOI is the only type of URL that should be included in most journal article citations. If your article has a DOI, always include it in your citation using the format http://doi.org/xxxxx. If it does not have a DOI, do not include a URL in its place.
