Timeline of Alverno College History

1930

 

Sacred Heart School of Nursing, precursor to the JoAnn McGrath School of Nursing and Health Professions, was opened on September 22, 1930. The first director of the school was Sister Christopher McGuire.

1933

 

In 1933, St. Joseph Convent Conservatory of Music began offering a two-year curriculum program and was renamed the St. Joseph Convent College of Music.

1936

 

In 1936, St. Joseph Convent College of Music became a four-year program and was renamed again as Alverno College of Music.

 

Also in 1936, St. Joseph Normal School became Alverno Teachers College.
