Reaching Out in New Ways: Highlights from the History of Alverno's Research Center on Women

An Opportunity to Exchange Ideas Amongst Women's Studies Faculty

The first such conference to be held in the Midwest, the Midwest Conference on Women's Studies was sponsored and coordinated by the RCW. It took place on October 22-23, 1971.

One hundred and five educators who taught or coordinated courses and programs in women's studies at colleges and universities in the region met for two days to exchange experiences, ideas, and resource materials, and to discuss various approaches to, and aspects of, women's studies. the conference was a bargain--$16 for the entire conference including room and board!

Midwest Conference on Women's Studies Draws 105 

The variety and breadth of women's studies programs being initiated nationwide by U.S. universities and colleges were reflected in the first Midwest Conference on Women's Studies held at Alverno College last Fall. The 105 participants represented almost every major university and college in the midwest.
