“Bucyrus Foundry and Manufacturing Company began in Bucyrus, OH in 1880. By 1893, the company had outgrown its Ohio facility and moved its operations to South Milwaukee, making large, special-purpose excavating machines that drove the company’s growth and progress for over 130 years. The company’s presence grew quickly to span the U.S. and the globe, with operations on five continents. Bucyrus shovels, dredges, and draglines were instrumental in some of the largest earth-moving and excavation projects in history, and the company achieved many industry firsts.

From the California gold fields to the Panama Canal, Bucyrus leveraged its innovation and leadership at home and abroad. Just as its excavation equipment carved the physical landscape, the company helped shape Milwaukee.

The Bucyrus Conference Center at Alverno College continues the company’s legacy. The center provides space for diverse groups from across the region to gather, to learn, and to share ideas that will define our future.”
