What's in a Name? The Names and Places of Alverno College

Heritage Garden

Heritage Garden is a “pocket park” found just outside the La Verna Commons. The garden includes trees, shrubs, a water feature, and tables and chairs.

Designed by Uihlein/Wilson Architects, Heritage Garden’s highlight is the sculpted limestone wall that includes the names of 255 School Sisters of St. Francis who have worked at Alverno since the move to its present site in 1953. The space was made possible through generous donations made by the Class of 1954 who gave in honor of the School Sisters of St. Francis. The garden was constructed during the Promise and Power campaign of 2013-2014 and was dedicated on October 3, 2014 during Homecoming.
